Protect yourself at all times
Boxing is also referred as a gladiators sport. However, fast forward from the Roman Empire, the participants use gloves and are subjected to rules with a ref being present in the ring (Formally the colosseum) and us sick and twist audience watch and observe people damn near legally punishing each other.
With every rule created, there are always going to be people who bend it in their favor, especially if their health in on the line in the process. So this is ultimately is why you protect yourself at all times, as the ref states before every fight.

I will take this further and state that the fighter much adopt this mentality 24/7. Failing drug tests, injuries, people sharing secret info about their competition. People/Teams/Promotional companies will try within their power for their fighter to get the edge. Its not always ethical but a lot of money is on the line so it makes sense in you are in their shoes.

Wiping the gloves
Everytime a fighter is knocked down then the ref has to wipe off the end of the gloves. Sometimes unwanted particles end upon the end of the glove unintentional (Or Intentional). You don't want that at the end of the glove getting on your frail skin or eyes. You have enough things to worry about.
Rounds
Conventionally in professional fights. 10 round x 3 minute rounds with a 1 minute break in between. Championship level fights are 12 rounds instead of 10.

If we go back to fighters at the early stages of his careers some you can see them in 4 round fights, then 6 then up to 8.

Just remember that Boxing is all development with ample of preparation.
