Pure Boxers
Outpointers

A pure boxer or out pointer, is state of fighting where a boxer uses the jab and excellent footwork to fulfill the duty of hitting and not being hit. Swift movement around the ring, maintaining optimal positioning and evade opponents' attacks makes this style very hard to defeat.

Pure boxers typically prioritise precision and swiftness over raw power and aggression as its key to control distance, disrupting the opponent's rhythm to set up better and harder shots.

Fighters like, Willie Pep, Floyd Mayweather,  Pernell Whitaker and Tevin Farmer are what you could consider pure boxers.

In my opinion these are the pretty and most elegant fighters in the ring. Problem is that the likelihood of them scoring knockouts is lower than normal so fans have the least patience for these type of fighters.

Some people may refer to them as runners, but I'd say, if you have quick feet and hands, then use them. Same way if a zombie who isn't as quick as you, chases you, then I'd hope that you would use your superior speed to get out of there.

There you go, a free gem from yours truly.

Sluggers
Brawlers

A slugger, or power puncher, is a type of boxer known for their aggressive up-close style and heavy hitting approach.

Unlike the technical finesse of a pureboxer, sluggers focus on overwhelming their opponents with forceful punches and a relentless offensive approach. Main characteristics of a slugger are:

1. Power: The ability to stop and put your man down.
2. Aggression: Making the opponent as uncomfortable as possible.
3. Chin- The ability to absorb big damaging shots.
4. Stamina- A High enough work to actually adopt and to use the style appropriately.

Fighters like Mike Tyson, William Zepeda and Rocky Marciano all are renowned for their slugger/brawling approach.

These fighters are the stereotypically fan favourites. Action first, defence secondary. These fighters usually take the most punishment in the sport but best believe that they make you earn everything in the ring.

Boxer Punchers
Punchers

A boxer-puncher is a versatile type of fighter who combines the strategic approach of a pure boxer with the power and aggressiveness of a slugger. This hybrid style allows them to adapt to different opponents and situations in the ring, making them highly effective and unpredictable. Here are the main characteristics of a boxer-puncher:

1. Balanced Skill Set: Knowing when to box and when to turn it up.

2. Adaptability: Scheming on your bad habits then making you pay.

3. Technical Proficiency: Having the Ring IQ, footwork and the aggressiveness not only to outbox you but to send you to the canvas trying to figure out what happened.

Fighters like Sugar Ray Leonard,  Saul Canelo Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev are fighters whom has adopted the boxer puncher style in a lot of their fights.

A lot of P4P level fighters are boxer punchers as they adopt bits from different styles. Skills of a pure boxer the ruthlessness of a slugger and willingness to invade you space like a swarmer.

Swarmers
Pressure Fighters

A swarmer, also known as a pressure fighter or in-fighter, is a type of boxer known for their relentless aggression, constant forward movement and the ability to close down space otherwise known as cutting off the ring.

This style is designed to overwhelm opponents with a barrage of punches and relentless pressure up close. Here are the main characteristics and notable aspects of a swarmer:

1. Aggression: Always looking to invade your space even if its subtle.
2. Inside Fighting: Getting extremely close to your opponent then man handling them landing hooks, uppercuts, and body shots more effectively.
3. Chin and Durability: The ability to absorb punishment and being able to continue press forward.

Fighters like Roberto Duran, Jarell Miller and Joe Fraizer have adopted this style.

These are fighters like to get up close, zone in and then start to chip away at your body. Fighting in the pocket/ fighting on the inside/ Fighting up close are all interchangeable terms to describe how a true swarmer gets down.
